The original and the ultimate. First released in 1989, this gold-plated ‘SEX’ choker by Vivienne Westwood was a nod to her infamous 1970s boutique SEX — the gritty, rebellious shop that birthed punk style and dressed the Sex Pistols.
Though Dolce & Gabbana debuted a near-identical version in 2003, they later admitted in 2017 that they borrowed the concept from Westwood. Still, the credit often goes to them — a reminder of how fashion history tends to forget the women who started it all.
Famously worn by Pamela Anderson on the cover of Playboy, this oversized choker is pure provocation — and pure Vivienne.
